Could it actually happen?
You know, it's up to you to order what you want and to eat where you want.
CHEESEBURGER BILL
Without making any jokes or anything about those with weight problems, I would just like to say that upsizing or supersizing or whatever they call it at each place is an option not a command.
People have to take some responsability for what they put into their own body.
I'm no adonis, or nutritionist but I at least try to eat fairly healthy (yeah I still eat fast food, but not nearly as much as I used to and I do skip certain items more often than not)
Eat a little smarter and go over your options a little better.

Absolutely. And it looks like the gun manufacturer bill is going to pass, and that's another outstanding achievement that gives me some hope that we aren't necessarily doomed for failure.
Obviously, it's not like the Republicans are guided by any altruistic motivation, they're only concerned with protecting business.
But that said, I absolutely agree this crap needs to be nipped in the bud.
In the case of asbestos, even though I think it's a travesty how that litigation developed, there's no getting around the fact that, in the 30s, the asbestos makers knew their product could cause health concerns, and they did nothing about it but try to cover it up.
In the case of tobacco, I will forever believe that the tobacco companies would have prevailed but for the fact they they lied to Congress. In fact, early on, they were holding their own. But then they lied to the government, and the government became thier enemy. THat's why you had state Attorneys General crawling into bed with the trial lawyers.
But like I said, I can at least see how those evolved, even if, in the case of tobacco, I think those lawsuits were nonsense.
As for the cheeseburgers.....I don't ever recall ever being told that they were healthy for you. Hell if you read the nutrition info that's posted on the wall you can see how much fat and calories these things have. And to my knowledge, it's not like McDonald's has ever lied to Congress.
Same with the gun-makers. The dangers of guns are inherent to the product itself, it is legal to own them, the maker should not be held liable for their misuse.

In this day and age, if you smoke you have allready seen and heard the health warnings and hazzards of doing so.
If you smoke, you should be fully aware of what can result from you doing so.
I dont smoke, but if I did (which will never happen) I would have a full understanding of the health risks involved.
When I go out for ice cream or something, it's in moderation. If I gain a little weight from doing so too much, it's my fault.
In thses areas, people really need to take some responsability for their own actions.
Unprotected sex! Not just STD's but pregnacy as well.

Greg - I agree 100%. I am obese & I got this way without the benefit of "fast food". I have been heavy since I was a teenager & having six kids in less than ten years didn't help any. By the time I discovered the reason I was a compulsive overeater it was too late to help with the weight problem. Since then I have, pretty well, maintained my weight. But "fast food" was not the problem BUT even if it were I would not blame the fast food chains. Every person has a free will & should be responsible for their choices.

No but I'm sure the fast food lobby got an earful from McDonald's, Burger King, et al and said we're not paying you millons of dollars to get sued. So fix it.
The lobbyist's contribute to someone's campaign and viola this bill gets put together.
Well I'm going to start my own lobby to force congress to cut off medical coverage to those who have weight related medical issues but failed to take action to eliminate the weight. If these folks are a drain on my insurance companies and cause my premiums to be higher because they can't put the double cheeseburger and choclate malt down, then they don't deserve health care. Fuck them.
Don't exercise, don't eat right, develop health issues, drain insurance/medicare coffers, die. Good bye!

Right, and I do understand that some people have actual medical problems that cause them to have weight problems as well. Not being unsympathetic or trying to be mean.
Just simply stating that we all need to take more responsability for what we put into our bodies, and for those who have kids the bodies of your children.
Kids will eat healthy stuff and enjoy it, you may be surprised.

Do we really need Congress to make a law for this? Talk about government intrusion.
